Love to be green Florists are located on the outskirts of Newton Abbot, a busy market town in a lovely part of England, South Devon. Here, working as experienced florists we are passionate about being as eco-friendly with our designs as possible.
The floral services which we provide are designed and created from our home based studio in Newton Abbot and it is here where we strive to practice the following Environmental Ethos:
We use freshly cut flowers and foliage from various local growers, private estates and our own gardens as much as we can.
We support local businesses and craft workers.
We compost all plant waste.
Water conservation has become the need of the day. We save rainwater for our own planting.
We keep chemicals to a minimum using natural alternatives wherever possible. We Strive to Reduce/Reuse and Recycle products.
From ‘Fashion Design’ to ‘Floral Design’
Susan Hodges-Owner of Love to be Green Florist, Newton Abbot.
I have always had a passion for art and design, but this developed more strongly after studying a two year full time Fashion Design course in North West London. After completing the course I began a career as a Dress Designer for a company in London’s fashionable West End.
During my career in working for various companies within the fashion industry, I enjoyed designing and creating bespoke designs for their seasonal fashion ranges where my garment designs attracted much interest from the buyers of well-known retail outlets such as those from John Lewis,
Jacques Vert, H & M, and Jane Norman to name a few.
After relocating from London to Devon in 2001 there was something about being surrounded by the beautiful countryside & nature which inspired me. Drawing on a strong design background, I transferred my design skills and experience into another passion of mine-
...to design with flowers!
After more years of studying this time in the floral industry, I gained Floristry & Teaching qualifications. Bicton College and Torbay Council.
Now, having been almost 15 years in the 'flower world', along with owning Love to be Green Florist, Newton Abbot,
I have acquired the following-
More than 10 years working in Wedding and Event Floristry, Corporate work and creating Bespoke Funeral Flowers.
More than 8 years of teaching Interior Floral Design/Floristry /Flower Arranging for Devon County Council-accredited and non-accredited courses.
Designed and held independent Floral Art Courses - Flower Arranging Courses in Newton Abbot, Floristry Courses in Newton Abbot.
